Assignment 6

For assignment six we were supposed to evaluate a software or game. I chose to evaluate a game. I chose an online game called Bus Math Addition from www.learninggamesforkids.com. I thought this game was a good game to help students with their addition facts. The player had to tell if the animal/person had enough money to enter the bus. The game gave an addition fact and the play has to tell if the numbers add up to the correct amount needed to enter. This game would probably start at the end of first grade and go all the way through the highest level of player. The game was helpful in helping the player learn their addition facts and know them fast. The player has to know them at a fast pace. The game gets faster and harder as the levels go up.

                The second part of assignment six was to evaluate an organization. I chose the Solar System Exploration organization.  This is an organization run  through NASA’s website. (www.solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/) This website gives you all kinds of information all the different planets. I plan to use this website in my classroom to teach about the different planets in our solar system. It is a very reliable website because it is from NASA. It is updated daily. I really liked this website. I look forward to using it in my room.

Assignment 5

I am in need of a desktop computer in my own classroom. I need this computer for many different reasons. One of the reasons is for my students to have complete internet access in the classroom. I have many lessons I would like to include the internet, but I do not have a computer or internet access. If I had this computer with internet access I would be able to incorporate many different teaching strategies and tools. I can show videos on the computer and use different websites for the lessons I am teaching.

Another great use of a computer in my classroom is access to email. If I can have my own classroom computer I am able to keep a constant look on my email throughout the day. There are so many reasons a teacher should keep a look at their email throughout the day. One reason is to be in constant communication with parents. If a parent is in need to contact me during the day, the parent can shoot me an email. I can keep a look at my email all day, and email the parent back immediately. Another reason for having a constant use for email in my classroom is email with the faculty. If I have a quick question for another faculty member or have something I found that might be useful for another grade level teacher I can shoot them an email with the information in it. They could use what I send them in their lesson they might be working on at that moment.

            I can also use this computer for the students to do their own research and to take test. The school puts a big emphases on AR testing. Having this computer in the room can be a big help to giving my students more time in the day to take test. Right now we are having to use the library for AR testing. The library is only open for us to use a few hours of the day. A lot of times when the library is open for students, I am teaching math or science. This is not a good time for my students to miss. If we had our own classroom computer then we could take test any free time we have throughout our day.

            Having a computer in our classroom would be wonderful, but without certain accessories the computer will not be as effective as it could be if we had certain accessories. The accessories I am asking for with our computer is a wireless printer, copier, and scanner all in one. Having a wireless printer, copier, and scanner all in one will benefit me and the students. Having this accessory I will be able to print or make copies of worksheets for the students. I also can make copies of different announcements I need to send home. Having this in the room can help me not have to leave the room while students are working. While students are working on their assignments or reading I can make copies and print off different things I need to send home with the students. Having this printer and copier and scanner all in one can be such a big resource for the classroom.
